| It was true poetry in motion watching the students pitch in and work very hard in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after the meal for over 70 veterans. Plus their extra efforts in brightening up the shelter by cleaning the dining hall from stem to stern, as well as cleaning and brightening up the shelter's entrance lobby. The entire night, our students shared their friendly, cheerful smiles to make a veteran feel better while providing a warm meal on a cold night in New England. |

The Details:
The Culinary arts student prepared over 200 desserts at Assabet and brought them along to serve to the veterans.
As I talked to several veterans, they all said to me that they were very appreciative in seeing young adults going out of their way to help their fellow vets.
It was a good night to say thank you to all of the homeless veterans in Worcester,
Enjoy the photos, and thank you letter to the students.
Warm Regards,
Mr. Mansfield, Assabet Metal Fab. Teacher,
Ret. US Navy Chief
Mr. Wittimer, Assabet Metal Fab. Teacher

Learn to Serve Volunteer Letter of Appreciation,
Dear Learn to Serve Students: Megan, William, Josh W, Josh B, Kia, Nick, Kevin, Chris, Sam, Wyatt, Victor , Hayley, Cam, Eliza, Jason, Sydney, Kaithlyn, Danni, and Ryan,
On behalf of Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all for your efforts in making Learn to Serve program such a tremendous success.
Your enthusiasm, dedication, and can-do spirit have not gone unnoticed. We appreciate that you gave up your evening on February 27, 2013 to help serve meals and make local homeless veterans feel appreciated. You demonstrated your appreciation by pitching in and serving meals, and cleaning the shelter. Also, you gathered your thoughts and began to brainstorm several designs concepts for a new sculpture that will be placed at the Veterans Inc. Shrewsbury homeless shelter garden fountain. You have laid the groundwork to create a sculpture out of metal for veterans reflection pool. Finally, you demonstrated the true spirit of Assabets community service motto, Lending a Helping Hand, in reaching out to help veterans of Worcester and other surrounding communities.
During the process of serving meals and cleaning off tables, working the kitchen at the homeless shelter, I had the opportunity to talk to several veterans myself. Many of them commented on how impressed they were to see young adults working so hard and volunteering their time to help out. My response to all of them was, that our students from Assabet Valley Technical High School wanted to reach out and say thank you to all veterans for making our country a safe and a free place to live.
I congratulate all of you and wish you the very best in life. Continue building upon your good work with your community service projects; you are making a difference in peoples lives one project at a time.
Sincerely,
Mr. Mansfield Mr. Hollick
Metal Fabrication Teacher School Principal
U.S. Ret. Navy Chief
